Disciplinary Procedures at workplace : An introduction

Disciplinary action is a method of dealing with employees who cause problems or do not follow company rules and policies. ( e.g. mistake , violation e.g)

Companies use a range of disciplinary procedures depending on the severity of the transgression.

Sometimes rules are broken. Due to that employees may endanger themselves or others.

  • Ignoring issues can result in injuries.
  • it is necessary to use discipline to enforce the rules.

Disciplinary Action Against Employees :

  • Penalties
  • Punishments
  • Oral Warning: The mildest form of discipline is an oral warning.
  • Written Notice: The second step in the order of severity in progressive discipline is the written notice or warning.
  • Suspension
  • Demotion
  • Pay Cut
  • Dismissal
  • Discharge from the duty

Whom would you discipline?

Case 1: A supervisor who orders the workers to cut corners to save time?

Case 2: A reckless forklift-truck driver?

Case 3: An office worker who repeatedly fails to wear PPE when in the factory area?

Case 4: A maintenance worker who doesn’t isolate a machine because the job was only 10 minutes long?
