Responsibilities of organization who share a workplace to work together on H&S issues ( C155 Article 17, R164 Recommendation 11)
- A workplace which is occupied or shared by more than one organization.
- As per Article-17 of ILO C155 (Convention) which guides that:
- Whenever two or more undertakings(organisation) engage in activities simultaneously at one workplace, they shall collaborate in applying the requirements of this Convention.
SHARED RESPONSIBLITIES include (Both the organization should share the):
- Safe Site access, including the use of vehicles on site (Safe movement of People).
- Welfare facilities, including toilets, washing facilities, eating and rest facilities
- Sharing of procedures, eg. Fire and emergency response;
- First Aid, Reporting of incidents
- Sharing of risk assessments;
- Joint management-committee meetings;
- Information of the work carried out by the different organization’s employees, so that a combined plan is made;
- Create a effective communication among all the organization’s employees.
- provision of information about site rules (if any) necessary to ensure the safety of the employees of all organisations with employees on site.

Why need of shared responsibilities?
- When two or more employers share a workplace there could be risk to each other by anyone whosoever not maintaining a good H&SMS at workplace.
- Therefore it becomes a responsibility to each other for mutual cooperation and coordination for their activities to ensure good H&SMS in the shared workplaces.
