What are the Human Factors?

According to a definition shared by the WHO, human factors “refer to environmental, organizational and job factors, and human and individual characteristics which influence behaviour at work in a way which can affect health and safety.”

  • Many accidents can be attributed to some kind of human action and human behaviour influenced.
  • Industries need to focus on human factors issues for the prevention of major accidents as well as on the prevention of occupational injuries and health.
  • Industries are generally less aware of human factor issues than nuclear, defence, Health, Aerospace, and rail sectors etc.
  • Proper consideration of human factors is a key ingredient of effective H&S management.
